Interview with Peter Hauser, me2me
Simulating conventional dictation devices on smartphones and more
Peter Hauser, GEO of me2me (SSN, November 2009, p. 25), was interviewed by Bill Meisel in early September. Peter holds an MBA from The University of Boston and HWV in Zurich, Switzerland. He spent 8 years as the senior VP and general manager of international operations for Nuance Communications. He was a member of the core team who built Nuance's speech business out of the assets of L+H, Philips, ScanSoft, SpeechWorks, ART, Phonetics, and Tegic. He was responsible for growth of Nuance Communications international operations, bringing the annual revenues from $40 Million to $328 Million. Before Nuance, Peter was the senior VP and general manager of international operations for GDC, Middlebury, Connecticut. Peter also held senior executive positions for Ascom and Texas Instruments.
Please outline the product lines of me2me.
Me2me products address both general and specialized dictation markets:
- Frisbee workstation dictation workflow management Systems for workstations.
- Frisbee enterprise dictation/workflow management Systems for servers.
- Frisbee speech recognition for workstation and servers.
- Frisbee Smart: "full comfort dictation on smart phones." We basically mirror the functionality of traditional dictation equipment (Philips, Grundig, Olympus) unto smart phones. This does reduce the costs of dictation deployment per seat by nearly 50%.
- me2me WAVE Engine Platform (the original me2me development) - a carrier grade platform to deliver hosted multiple managed services (Web and Voice) to Service Providers and Enterprises.
Me2me merged with provider of digital dictation products and voice technology iSpeech (SSN, February 2010, p.37) in July. How has the integration of the two companies proceeded?
iSpeech, a spinoff of Dictaphone, is out of Baar Switzerland. The two companies are fully merged under the me2me name, with managers William Wen and Peter Hauser. The product name of Frisbee will continue. me2me has installed 15 K+ licenses, and me2me has orders at hand for Frisbee Smart for nine healthcare consortia already.
Whose speech technology do you use?
me2me has fully integrated solutions driven by Nuance's speech technology (OSR for the WAVE Platform and Dragon for the Frisbee Product line).
How are the services priced?
Services are priced by monthly usage per user for the hosted managed services delivery, by concurrent license for Enterprise solutions, by seat for workstation solutions, and by device for smart phone clients ($3 for the full dictation comfort application).
Any final comments?
In the early days, dictation services were focused on healthcare/legal vertical markets. Frisbee Smart does open up the market for vertical independent markets - e.g., mobile sales forces in areas such as insurance, finance, mobile transcription workers, and government.
